Your Panorama COVID19 update

Having spent most of the winter in Switzerland (until it was so rudely interrupted), it is now time to work from home for a while. While the timing is not perfect as I had some ski-touring plans for the rest of the season, like everybody else I take it on the chin and I am now back in London. And you know what? The air is much cleaner than before and suddenly it’s not unhealthy to go for a run along a street. If we could keep it that way, we might actually live longer thanks to this current wake up call (but that’s just my view).

Work I have plenty and here a little update on what I was doing during the first weeks of my confinement.

I finished the draft for my book called ‘Mon Valais/My Valais’ and am currently looking for editors. It’s a photo journey through the four seasons of my time in the Valais (a canton in Switzerland). With roughly 220 pages it will be a beautiful coffee table book for anyone who has a place in the Valais or wishes to bring back a souvenir from their holiday. Over the years I have taken a vast amount of photos other than just the panoramas you would expect me to. I also managed the Instagram account of a small ski resort (@latzoumaz) which inspired me to work on my collection. I will keep you updated on the progress of this project.

The potential sleeve

I prepared the 2021 calendars for London and Switzerland. Usually, I would print them soon in order to have them ready for a fair in Switzerland in June, but as this year everything is a bit different, I wait until later in the year. If you want to put in a preliminary order, now is the time.

A peek preview of the Switzerland calendar…
…and the same for London.

I worked on a few labeled panoramas, here just an example. The photo (or series of photos in this case) was taken by a customer on a smartphone, I stitched the photos together, improved the result and labeled the mountains.

If you have a bit of time on your hands, now might be the perfect moment to work with me on a labeled panorama for you. If you answer yes to the following questions, you know how to reach me 😉.

A) Do you have a camera or a smartphone?

B) If you look outside, do you have a view that is worth labeling? Mountains, hills, potentially a cityscape?

Get in touch and we can work together to get you a labeled panorama, printed on a surface of your choice.

I hope you are well and make the most of these unusual times.

Have a Panorama Party!

50 Year anniversary of the SAC Ledifluh

On the 25th of December 2015 I was walking off my Christmas dinner around the hills of where my parents live in the Bernese countryside. It was a nice, but snowless day. I came to spot called ‘Ledifluh’ that offers a fantastic view of the alps. Obviously (in my case) I took advantage of the beautiful view to take a few photos that I could stitch together to make a panorama.

At home I showed it to my father who then mentioned, that he will talk to his colleagues at the Swiss Alpine Club Ledifluh about it. The club had a 50th anniversary coming up (in 2019) and he thought, a panorama table would be great way to celebrate this event.

I forgot all about it until I got contacted early 2018 by the president of the club asking for an example of a labelled panorama from the Ledifluh. I worked on it, and after sending it back and forth a few times to add the logos and decide on the title, the club went with following version.

I was also instructed to deliver a stand on which the panorama is fixed. I used my usual contact and we came up with a simple solution where the printed panorama acts as a table and is attached directly to the stand.

Deadline for everything was the 50th anniversary party on Saturday, 10th of August 2019. By then the stand had to be installed but the image was not supposed to be shown until it was revealed at the party. Hence we had to put the table up in the days before the presentation, wait for the concrete to set and then remove the plate again. Only on the day itself did we put the picture back on (nicely wrapped) so that the president of the club could then have a speech and reveal the panorama in front of all the guests.

With red ribbon!

Here a few impressions of the day itself that will be remembered by the participants for a long time. The panorama will entertain many hikers for years to come.

Get in touch if you plan to have a ‘Panorama-Party’ for a special event, I kept the red ribbon! 😉
